Saint Titus the Apostle

Today is in Pagumen, the little thirteenth month that has only a few days at the very end of the Ethiopian year. On this day we remember Saint Titus, one of Jesus' closest helpers who went out to teach people about God.

Titus grew up in a faraway city among the Greek people. Even as a little boy he was clever and kind. He loved to learn, he tried hard to do good, and his heart went out to people who were poor and hungry.

One night Titus had a dream. A voice told him to be brave and to take care of his soul, because there is something better than all the things of this world. He woke up with his heart full of wonder.

About that time, people everywhere were telling stories about a Teacher named Jesus and the kind things He did, like healing the sick and feeding the hungry. The ruler of Titus' city wanted to know if the stories were really true. So he picked Titus, because Titus was the wisest and best, and sent him far away to the land where Jesus lived to find out.

When Titus arrived, he saw Jesus with his own eyes. He watched Jesus heal people and listened to His gentle words. Right away Titus knew the truth: Jesus was truly God. He believed in Jesus and decided to follow Him forever.

Later, Titus became a close helper of another apostle named Paul. The two friends traveled from city to city together, telling everyone the good news about Jesus. When Titus grew old, he went back to his home city, built a church, and chose kind leaders to care for God's people. Then he finished his work and went home to God, whom he loved with all his heart.

Be brave, Titus, and take care of your soul, for there is something far better than all the things of this world.

When Titus saw Jesus and heard His words, he knew the truth, and he followed Jesus for the rest of his life.
