Megabit 18 — March 27
Two faithful friends who loved God together
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, One God. Amen.
Saint Isidore and His Friend Saint Sona
Long ago there were two good friends named Saint Sona and Saint Isidore. Sona was a soldier, and Isidore was his close friend. They wore simple clothes made of wool, and they were very kind. Every time they were paid for their work, they shared their money with people who were poor and hungry. They loved God more than anything.
One night, the two friends each had the very same dream. They saw a holy lady come to them, smiling, and place a crown on each of their heads. When they woke up, they told each other about the dream and were filled with joy. They believed God was inviting them to be brave for Him, even if it meant giving up their lives for Jesus.
So the two friends went together and told the governor that they belonged to Jesus Christ. The governor was angry and had them locked away. But they were not alone! God sent an angel to sit with them and comfort them, so they were not afraid.
For a little while the two friends were sent to different cities. They missed each other very much. Then, happily, they were brought back together, and they hugged and shared all their stories. Wicked men hurt the friends because they would not stop loving Jesus, and Saint Isidore gave up his life rather than turn away from Him. But God kept Isidore safe in a deeper way: even fire could not change him, and his body stayed peaceful and whole.
At that very moment, Sona's mother looked up and saw something wonderful. A great crowd of shining angels was carrying Isidore's soul up, up to heaven, in glory and song. Isidore had gone home to God, just as the dream had promised. Saint Isidore was brave because he knew that God's love is stronger than anything in the world.
A holy lady came to them and placed a crown on each of their heads — a sign that God was calling His brave friends home to Him.
Sona's mother saw a great crowd of angels carrying Isidore's soul up to heaven with joy.
